At six months, we enjoy a host of fun baby developments. Olivia is a real pro at rolling onto her tummy from her back. She hasn't figured out going the other way, yet, but we don't mind so much since that makes her slightly less mobile... It won't be long, however, until she is a real crawler. She has been working on her technique for quite some time and can now inch entire feet before she gets frustrated and cries out in indignation.
She can also sit up unassisted (if we sit her down just so). It takes quite a bit of rattle shaking or toy flinging to illicit a sideways topple. The rapidly changing facial expressions of surprise, confusion, and annoyance dissolve into smiles as soon as Mommy or Daddy grin and say "Whoa!"
Olivia passes toys from one hand to the other (future juggler?), recognizes her own name (no, Lucy, she doesn't think it's "Baby" ;-), loves trying new solid foods (most recently pears - baby thumbs up!), and is now able to recognize familiar faces. She is very particular about who she lets play with her or hold her, but that will change with time (it's nothing personal, really, it's just a phase!). And just today, she fed herself from a sippy cup like she's been doing it all along! What a big girl.
Speaking of Big Girl... Olivia now weighs a whopping 19.5lbs and measures 27.5" tall! While this is in no way abnormally large for a six month old, my aching back feels entirely different about that fact. Somehow I thought babies were so much smaller for so much longer...
I do believe that this is the first year I have ever looked forward to the weather getting cold. Olivia has so many cute cold-weather outfits that I can't wait to dress her up in them all!
